Nick Offerman shared heartbreaking words about the loss of Jonathan Joss, who was fatally shot in Texas. Offerman says the Parks and Rec cast has been “texting all day.”

Jonathan Joss played Chief Ken Hotate, a fan-favorite recurring character in Parks and Recreation. His portrayal brought humor and heart to Pawnee’s Wamapoke Tribe leader.

Offerman says the cast is "heartbroken," and they've all been in contact, grieving together. Joss’ death has deeply impacted his television family and fans worldwide.

On June 1, Jonathan Joss was fatally shot on his property in San Antonio. Authorities found him lying near the roadway and declared him dead at the scene.

Police arrested Joss’ 56-year-old neighbor, Sigfredo Alvarez Cejam. He’s been booked for murder as the investigation into the shocking event continues in Texas.

Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said they were harassed for being a gay couple and received threats for over two years prior to the tragedy.

Tristan said Joss pushed him out of the way, saving his life. “Jonathan saved my life,” he wrote, calling the moment heartbreaking yet heroic.

Joss and Tristan married on Valentine’s Day. They were newlyweds planning a future together before hate and violence shattered their dreams.

Tristan promised to protect Joss’ legacy, saying he brought “more love” than most experience. Joss will be remembered as a talented actor and loving partner.
