George Wendt, famous for playing Norm Peterson on Cheers, has died at 76. The iconic actor passed away peacefully in his sleep, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.

Wendt starred in all 275 episodes of Cheers from 1982 to 1993. His portrayal of the lovable Norm earned him six Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

He was married to actress Bernadette Birkett since 1978 and had three children. He was also the uncle of Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.

Even decades after Cheers, Wendt said fans always recognized him. “It was a once-in-a-generation hit,” he reflected in an interview.

Cheers Boston, the bar that inspired the show, honored him: “You’ll always have a stool at our bar, George. Thank you for the laughs and comfort.”
